Black Rock Forest offers a challenging ascent.

Avenza Map NY-NJ Trails - 113 West Hudson (East) is recommended for smart phone and print.

Brian:

The focus of this route is Black Rock Forest, a unique jewel of our region. After a quick dirt dip down to the Hudson at Manitou, the long ascent into Black Rock begins.

The gravel roads in this private preserve are more rugged than most public dirt roads. Intersections are unmarked, so pay close attention to navigation; paper maps are often available at the trail kiosk, mile 15.4. Highlights within Black Rock are the stone house @ mile 16.1, and the causeway over Jim’s Pond, mile 19.3.

Lunch in Cornwall-on-Hudson, then paved roads (including Storm King Highway) to Peekskill.

There are no roadside facilities on this route prior to the lunch stop in Cornwall. Carry enough water & food at the start for 3 hours of riding.
