This route is the shortest on access to the top of Bear Mtn, aka Perkins, via Metro North.

Manitou is a stop on most outbound trains from GCT on weekends, please check that it is on the train you are planning on using. You can only exit the train in the last 2 cars of the train at Manitou. And there is no platform so you need to carry your bike down steps, a rather awkward maneuver. If this does not work for you, you can take the train one stop further to Garrison and go south on 9D, cycling the extra distance.

Metro North both ways on Hudson Line. Check time table. Metro North bike pass needed. Hilly route out to Goshen.

The most difficult route is on RWGPS and its cue sheet. Other options on author's cue sheet, which has been updated. But no bailouts.

Check Metro North schedule for latest train times.

Metro North bike pass needed. Check time table for train times. Very hilly to Greenwood Lake plus other hills in rest of ride. Here is what Fred sent as clues to insight of route: Garrison > Tioretti Cir – down AV > Southfield then backroads to Benjamin Meadows Rd and the Hogback. It puts the Southfield Valero at mile 20 making Goshen the next stop (47mi). The short version takes the Sara Wells trail to Beacon. The long version is a great flat route that heads up to Bryun Tpk at the infamous roller, turning R to fly into Wallkill.

A long meandering route that tackles just about every climb between GWB and Beacon with flexibility for distances and speeds.

The ride usually ends in Cold Spring; Beacon is a bit over the top. NOTE: Rte. 218 over Storm King Mtn. (from Washington Gate to Cornwall) may be closed.
