This one is fine for any bike with a tire 25m or wider. It is fine on a hybrid or mtn bike, and you could tear it up on a cyclocross gravel grinder as the surface is crushed gravel.

There are no stores en route but you could venture across bridges to Bound Brook and Princeton if needed. Otherwise, carrry water and food. Lunch in Princeton, where you could end this ride, would make a fine day trip.

NJ Transit out of NY Penn Station to New Brunswick, there are no bike permits, it is not an issue. Return from Trenton, on the same line out, but 3 stops further than New Brunswick.

Extension of Trenton/New Hope-Lambertville/Trenton route. Ridden hard, this is a very good workout for all levels as gravel surfaces offer resistance, and there are few interuptions. Winds can blow up and down the river valley. In fair weather winds tend to be on your tail on the return.

Delaware Canal towpath in PA to New Hope, back on Delaware Raritan Canal towpath in NJ. Gravel surfaces great for hybrids and mtn bikes, suitable for road bikes, but I think you would want to have at least 20 mm tires.

Yes, 6 Covered Bridges plus a Pony Box Bridge (only the trusses are covered). All of which are in Pennsylvania. Also great views of the Delaware River from the Bull's Island Bridge. This is a unique cycling experience for NYC riders in region, riding surface, landscape and local architecture.

Vertical gain on Ridewithgps might be inflated, although there is definite climbing.

Trains from NYC Penn Station run hourly, riding time 90 minutes each way. 2 bikes can be carried on either end of the double decker train cars, flipping seats up. You can secure your bikes with thin rope, sitting on seats across the aisle.
