Route follows Fred's Old Indian till Poughkeepsie.

Bail out in Poughkeepsie at mile 23 or Pawling at mile 48.

Please note that trains run at Pawling every other hour, check schedule.

The author's original route goes south towards Brewster on Farm to Market Rd, then west on Rt 312 and Rt 6. I have re-routed these as the latter roads are not very bike friendly. The RWGPS route goes west on Rt 311 then gets to Gipsy Trail via Rt 52. Barrett Hill Rd, Horsepound Rd and Nichols Rd.

7200' vertical gain. Map included on original cue sheet. Water stops not listed on this cue sheet are in carosel or in Bear Mtn Inn and Tiorati Circle.

Check Metro North for up to date train times.  This clever route includes great climbs on both sides of the Hudson. The hard pack section of Old Albany Post Road on this route is virtually unchanged since Washington marched his army on it. Look for original mile marker on the right.

Bull Mtn Pond/Proctoria/Lake Frederick Rd is closed so RWGPS route goes directly onto Rt 293 from Rt 6.

One way. You can return by descending north, down to North Adams, then back south.

Be careful on Rt 7; heavy traffic and narrow shoulder.

Great views.

Metro North to and from Brewster.

Lunch at The American Pie Company in Sherman, CT: http://americanpiecompany.com

Pick up a schedule at GCT for all the station times along the route as there are numerous bailouts up and back but trains run every other hour on the Harlem Line above Brewster North so keep an eye on distance and train times.

Some of these roads were used by NYCC for their approaches to Sheffield for Memorial Day Weekend in their ride from NYC.

Hilly!

Not accessible by rail. Vigorous climbfest: only the most fit need apply. 6000' vertical gain. For a shorter distance (66 miles), there is public parking on Rt 28 just west of Rt 47 on the left. A public drinking water pipe is on Sugarloaf, on the left, less than 0.1 mile past the turn for Red Hill.

A very ambitous ride for a B rider who is good in the hills, but a solid A workout.

43 miles/ 60.3 miles longer version Staten Island is home to some fantastic hills. This route traverses the ridges in the northeast part of the island, seeking to present these challenging climbs in a manageable fashion. The first 30 miles of the route average about 100 feet/mile of elevation, and many of the climbs are steep - over 10%. The next section is flat, with a long spin along the beach and through Ft. Wadsworth. Finally, the coup de grâce: Oakland Terrace.

A or B ride. Rating: 3 (5 for Olympic route) Take a looping path around the perimeter and into the interior of Staten Island. Cruise past some highlights of the borough including the Lighthouse, a Frank Lloyd Wright House, the beach, Ft Wadsworth and more. Also, check your medal potential on the proposed road race route for the NYC 2012 Olympic bid. Several of the island’s interior hills are included on this ride and the Olympic route has some very steep segments.
